Executive Dashboard for Telco

Challenge

    • The Consumer Division of a Tier 1 telecommunications carrier wanted a customised dashboard, none of the reporting tools would allow creation of the dynamic dashboard requested by the executive team.
    • Multiple reports needed to be combined outside of the dashboard to create the tables and charts wanted by the executive team.
    • The executive dashboard required that all the base reports be prepared first and only then could the dashboard be prepared, so issues with any of the base reports created delays in generating the dashboard.

Solution

    • Parameterising each of the axes of the building block reports allowed these reports to be ingested into the reporting engine to create the customised dashboard requested by the executive team.
    • Because the source data was dynamically linked to the summary cells in the report, it was now possible for users to double-click on a cell in the report to view the underlying activities which created the result.  This was extremely useful for the executive team and the reporting team as the executives could now interrogate the data themselves, without needing the assistance of the reporting team.

Outcome

    • Creation of the executive dashboard was automated, reducing the production time from hours to minutes.  Stress levels in the reporting team were greatly reduced.
    • The double-click feature of the dashboard was a point of pride for the executives and was often demonstrated to the executives in other divisions.
    • A better understanding of the levers that drove the divisions performance led to better guidance and from this improved performance.
